US Presidential Election- 1.5 crore people did advance voting

Voting is to be held in America on November 6 (Indian time). Before this, early voting is going on in many parts of America. According to the New York Times, till Tuesday, more than 1.5 crore Americans have cast their votes. This voting has been done through mail in more than 47 states.

This process of voting before the election is called advance polling or pre-poll voting. Advance polling has been done in US elections before as well. However, in earlier elections, Democrats dominated in pre-poll voting, but this time Republicans have started gaining lead in some major states.

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, who are in the presidential race, are also busy wooing Democrat and Republican supporters on the basis of early voting trends, so that they can be sent to vote.

Elon Musk, who is openly supporting Trump in the US elections, has said that he will give $1 million i.e. about Rs 8.40 crore to a single voter selected every day till the date of the presidential election. The interesting thing is that this scheme is applicable only for 7 swing states.

Due to Corona, more people voted before the election in 2020:

Advance voting is done in different ways in America. Most states have mail-in voting facilities. In this, people vote through post. In many states, voters can go to the polling center and vote themselves before the election. Voting dates may vary in different states. For example, elections in Virginia have started from September 20. Elections have not started yet in Wisconsin.

In 2020, due to fear of Corona, 6.5 crore people cast their votes by post and 3.58 crore people cast early votes to avoid crowds. This figure is about 64.4%. Similarly, in the 2022 midterm elections, about 50% of the people voted before the elections.

This time too, as the election day is getting closer, advance polling is increasing. According to a report by Newsweek, early voting started on October 15 in the states of Georgia and North Carolina. In just 1 day, more than 7.5 lakh people voted in both the places combined.
